SMS import not working #645

Thanks for the initiative on this app the import/export feature is really amazing.

So I exported a big dump of SMS amd MMS (almost 1GB), but importing it in a new device works very partially.

Given the size of the dump I expect it to be long but I don't understand if it happens as a background task, can I turn the screen off and return some time later and it will be done ? Or should I keep the phone powered and focused on the SMS and prevent the screen from turning off ? So far I've only managed to load a few conversations.

I would happily provide logs or run checks on my exported JSON file if you have any suggested way

you should keep the app open while it happens, it shouldnt take that long.

what exactly is your issue though, only some conversations are imported?

I think it worked this time. I had to disable screen timeout and let the app opened until it "seems" to be over (at that point I think the app closed).

It would be nice to have a message that warns to let the app opened and a way to check that everything was actually imported (a progress bar, a log with the amount of message in the json file VS the amount of missing messages that were imported, etc)

Anyway it works, it's awesome, many thanks !

I let you close the issue, or choose to let it open if you think it's good to have follow up on the UX regarding this feature.

well, 1GB file is an extreme edge case, our apps focus on casual use cases
