Notification for group SMS does not show it is a group SMS #772

Latest version of Simple SMS Messenger from f-droid -- 5.18.2. GrapheneOS.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. have a contact.
  2. Receive a group SMS (is it MMS? idk) sent from an unknown number (not in contacts) to two or more recipients, including self and the other contact.

Expected: Notification indicates it is a group SMS in some way.

Actual: Notification only shows the contact's name.

what do you mean? Our app doesnt use snack bars.

I guess I am referring to regular Android notifications.

do other apps show it differently? Not just the sender?

if you download some other SMS Messenger, does it work better?

It does, yes. I switched back to the AOSP Messaging app.

I tried to test this again by sending a message in the group that I thought would get a reply, however it sent the message as a direct SMS to everyone else in the group. I suppose this is a separate bug.
