Image Editor #440

Hi, Since we lost the Image Editor over Christmas - I will strongly suggest, that we get an alternative ... as a card reader this is a devastating loss for daily practice

I'm so sorry about that. Adobe decided to kill the product (god, I hate acquisitions ... they buy a perfectly great company and product and then let it languish and eventually nuke it ... without letting us know).

I looked for alternatives, but I haven't found any. If you hear of any, let me know. I did find a brilliant online image editor (https://pixlr.com/x/), but it doesn't look like it's quite ready for us to embed.

It does look like they have an API (http://pixlr.com/blog/support/pixlr-api/), but it looks like it's flash-only (their new /x/ editor doesn't require javascript), and there are some dead links.

Would love to be able to offer this again. I loved it so much myself. I event did a deeper integration just a few months ago, having no idea it was going to be nuked.

hte beauty of the image editor was that it was all "on site" .. screen shots, rotating, cropping ... using external sites for all this - every thing has to be saved in right size and whats not

Ive been searching for something even remotely bearable and have not found any yet - will keep looking and hopefully we will be able to find some solution - I used the editor on daily basis

calvincorreli commented 5 years ago

I feel your pain.

We'll look into the pixlr.com thing some more. In fact, let me write to their support right away.

Anja, check out https://pixlr.com/x/ and see if it would do the trick for you. It doesn't have the same feature set that Aviary did.

AnjaBusack commented 5 years ago

It is hard to replace "perfect"

one thing is how it works as an external site - which is ok .. another how it works embedded? on site

basic, what made it good - a) it was simple b) it was on site c) we could just c/p screen shots directly and edit on site

so pixlr dont have the screen shot option, as far as I can see it only takes images already on file - which is ok - its just, once you driven Bentley its hard to bargain whether a BMW will do the trick

So I guess, what ever works on site should just make us happy - as right now - there is nothing - image editor is soooo last year right :D haha

I know, I'm saying if it's possible to embed the editor from https://pixlr.com/x/, would it do what you need.

It doesn't have the same features as the editor we used to have.

But there's no point in us doing the work of embedding and integrating the pixlr editor (if it's possible) if the editor itself doesn't even do what you need.

Makes sense?

Didn't realize Aviary did screenshots. How did that even work?

AnjaBusack commented 5 years ago

it did - just press screen shot - go to comment field - paste . a little bit of cropping, and wupti - I loved it - it was my favorite feature

ok .. so it rotate, crops, size edit and adon text - that will do the trick yeah - those are the basics for wanting to edit an image - so looks good

AnjaBusack commented 5 years ago

Oh, and just a side comment - the screen shot pasting still works - its just that the editor is gone, so cropping the adress bar and stuff out of the picture is no longer an option. Super cool for the "how to" pages :D
