Submitting Ghost-chu's UTF-8 as a pull request, since they have not done so already. I have tested the newly added code on one of my plugins that deals with UTF-8 characters (cyrillic letters in my case) and everything seems to work fine, with the UTF-8 characters getting properly displayed.
