Adding a GPS module would make it possible to also use it for navigating when offline. This could be handy especially with a van that you want to use to visit remote locations.

Check out GPS RTK for a very accurate way of determining the location. For the correct part of the GPS it will need a stream of data which will require connection. Without it you could probably still use the devices as a regular (though expensive) way to determining longitude and latitude.
