JavaME restricted API problems #57

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What is your environment?
* OS: ubuntu 9.10
* Remuco version: 0.9.2
* Client device: LG Shine CU720
* Player: Rhythmbox

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run rhythmbox
2. Connect client to computer
3.

What is the expected behavior? What happens instead?
The client just says searching for player. It does not go past it.

The CU720 (and some other devices) caused service search problems previously and
that's the reason why customizable service search has been introduced with
Remuco
0.9.2. It looks like you did not try this yet:
http://code.google.com/p/remuco/wiki/FAQ#What_to_do_on_Bluetooth_problems? ..
see
section "Service search fails".

Does this solve your issue?

Ok, I tried that method. I set it to search for the channel manually and
changed the
channel to 10 on both sides. Now I get a "Not allowed to connect (Application
not
authorized to access the restricted API)" error

Bad news .. that sounds like the problem described at this page:
http://code.google.com/p/remuco/wiki/JavaMeApiPermissions

Unless you are able to adjust API permissions for JavaME applications on your
phone,
I'm afraid Remuco won't work. Note that this is not necessarily a phone but
provider
issue. Which provider do you use?

I am currently with AT&T

Sorry, looks like AT&T bars you from using Remuco (JavaME apps using Bluetooth
in
general). Can't do anything here.

What if I were able to remove the javaME restrictions?

Well, Remuco should work then :) i.e. you should get asked if Remuco is allowed
to
set up a Bluetooth connection. Usually then you can choose between something
like
"No", "Yes, this time" or "Yes, always".

You could try to remove the AT&T branding of your phone .. I'm not an expert on
this,
but I would guess this can be done by installing an unbranded firmware on your
device. Don't know if this is possible at all or how complicated or destructive
this is.

Actually, Remuco has always asked me if I wanted to allow this application to
start
bluetooth with a yes or no

The question is not triggered by Remuco but by the JavaME runtime of your
device.

Starting (enabling) Bluetooth is different from using it (setting up
connections). On
Sony Ericsson devices there pop up 2 questions, first whether Bluetooth should
be
started, and then whether the application "Remuco" is allowed to use Bluetooth.

Same problem as in issue 8.

Unfortunately this is something which cannot be fixed within Remuco.
