Remuco Exaile adapter not available as Debian/Ubuntu package #58

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What is your environment?
* OS: Ubuntu
* Remuco version: remuco-base    0.9.1.1+dfsg-1
* Client device: Nokia 6300
* Player: Exaile 0.3.0.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Exaile
2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Plugins
3. Remuco plugin is missing

What is the expected behavior? What happens instead?

According to docs at,
http://code.google.com/p/remuco/wiki/GettingStarted#Amarok,_Audacious,_Banshee,_
Songbird,_VLC

"The player adapter actually is a plugin of the player. Thus it gets
started automatically once you activate the Remuco plugin within the player. "

However I can't find such a plugin to activate in Exaile.

Additional information:
I've also asked this question in exaile-users, although it's not showing up
yet:

Thanks for pointing to this issue. You're right, Exaile is available since
0.9.1 but
unfortunately it is still not available as Debian/Ubuntu packages .. did not
recognize this yet. You may want to file a bug to the package maintainers to
highlight this issue: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remuco/+filebug

Until this is fixed, you should install Remuco from the release tarball you
find here
in the download section. It's quite straightforward as described in
GettingStarted.
Please make sure to uninstall any Remuco deb-packages before.

Hi, thank you for your fast answer :) As I mentioned all versions in current
Ubuntu
9.10 (Karmic Koala) match those advertised as including Exaile support. Both
Exaile
and Remuco are properly packaged and available in Karmic:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/remuco-base
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/exaile

The changelog indicates these versions should be supporting Exaile + Remuco:
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/r/remuco/remuco_0.9.1.1+df
sg-1/changelog
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/e/exaile/exaile_0.3.0.1-0u
buntu6/changelog

I checked dates, etc. I guess only remuco 0.9.2 has Exaile support ?

Yes, Exaile is in Karmic, but I meant that the package remuco-exaile is missing.
There is a separate package for each player adapter of Remuco and the one for
Exaile
is not yet available: http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/karmic/remuco (though
Exaile
support is in Remuco since 0.9.1:
http://code.google.com/p/remuco/wiki/ReleaseNotes).

I'll notify the package maintainer to fix this in the the 0.9.2 packages of
Remuco
but until you see it in Karmic there will pass some days/weeks.

Now I remember why remuco-exaile is not available: at the time of releasing
Remuco
0.9.1.1 an exaile-3.x package (dependency for remuco-exaile) was not yet
available.
Now there is such a package, so you can expect a remuco-exaile package when
0.9.2
Debian packages are available (hoping the package maintainers have some time to
do
this soon).

I notified the maintener of the remuco package (Chow loong Jin) 2 weeks ago
about
this problem.
He told me he did not do the remuco-exaile package because:
"Debian does not have Exaile 0.3.0+, which is what the packages are for. I did
not realize that Ubuntu has the newer version of Exaile packaged already."

He will not be able to put the package on lucid because feature freeze is
passed, but
he should put it on the ppa soon
(https://launchpad.net/~remuco-team/+archive/ppa).
