The future of EskaTracker, and EskaTracker 2

Hello everyone,

I open this ticket in order to talk about future of EskaTracker, as you've probably noticed the addon wasn't updated too much, and is particuliar buggy with 8.3.

The addon has became less and less maintainable over time, faciliting the appearance of bug and making their correction more difficult. Also, the small time i gave to it didn't help much.

With Shadowlands coming, i decided to reboot the addon. That is to say i'll recreate the addon from scratch , however it will have its own project page under an another name "EskaTracker 2" (EKT2 in short).

The idea is still keeping the same spirit, if you like EskaTracker you should like EKT2.

Here some important points about EKT2:

• The options and config are completely different, so your EskaTracker settings cannot be migrated to EKT2.
• The visual will be based on "Transparence" theme of EskaTracker.
• The Theme system no longer exists, but is replaced by an another system more powerful.
• The idle mode has disappeared.
• EKT2 will include tracking of basic content, no need to install an another addon for that (e.g, EskaTracker_Objectives).

As EKT2 is still in design phase and in a early development, i have no another information to share ATM.

Some update.

Name changements Like EskaTracker 2 name could leading to confusion because this is completely a new addon and not a major version of EskaTracker, i decided to rename it under an another name "SylingTracker".

SylingTracker for 8.3 ? As i have the beta, SylingTracker will be mainly developed under the Shadowlands environment. Currently, i don't know if a 8.3 version will exist, depending really when the addon will be ready (my ideal goal is when the prepatch hits live servers).

SylingTracker for Classic ? Yes, i planned to do a classic version.

I let below an early preview of the addon, the visual is based of Transparence theme of EskaTracker with an updated version.

As the theme system no longer exists, so both Eska and Transparence themes will go away.

Hello, I love Eska Tracker and I am very excited about the new version "SylingTracker". Will SylingTracker be released for the pre-patch? The pre-patch should be released at the end of the month (September). I would be glad. I will soon leave another donation. Thanks for the great work!

Hello, thanks for you support. I appreciate it.

The addon should be released as alpha/beta for the prepatch. My goal is all is ready and stable for the launch of Shadowlands. This is important to note the options won't available as i haven't finished yet on the design of options. Until when they will be released, a slash command "lock/unlock" will be provided for moving and resizing the tracker.

I know the lack of options will greatly limit the customization but this is temporary, and once the addon core will be fully finished and stable, my next focus will be the options.

Hello, Skamer Your graphical IF is fantastic, however the 'bugs'. The idea is fantastic, however the 'bugs'. Hope your Eska2 or whatever you call it will overwhelm the 'however the bugs'. En français: super, j'adore, mais les bugs m'ont dirigé ailleurs. Keep up the good work, you're close to perfection, on my sight !!!! Edit: Thank you for this great work!!!!

I understand the bugs in EskaTracker are problematic and have scared off lot of users. With SylingTracker, i don't expect to reproduce the same mistakes again. The first step was to separate the data and the visual for a better maintenance and new possibilities afterwards.

Here a little preview of the addon, there was some tuning in the quest visual compared to my last image.

• The ContextMenu have become much more pleasant.
• The purpose of "Help" line is to provide a Wowhead link for this quest. I'm not sure why i didn't consider adding this feature earlier. From my side, using a French client, i had to find the quest id then create the Wowhead link by hand. Now the addon will do this for me ❤️ . Extending this feature to achievement, world quest and to others where a Wowhead link makes sense is also planned.

Some update.

The "Mythic +" part is now finished, here is a comparison with EskaTracker. (Left: SylingTracker, Right: EskaTracker)

The Auto Quests (Quest popups) has been also implemented. The design has changed a lot compared to EskaTracker (Left: SylingTracker, Right: EskaTracker)

I have applied a last iteration on quests, will now be sorted by categories and distance. This works the same way as on EskaTracker:

• The category with the closest quest will be displayed in first.
• Each category will sort their quests by distance.

I have a good news, if all goes well, the addon should be ready for its first alpha version the next week.

Syling Tracker just needs to pass the Curseforge moderation, then it will be available. So very soon !

I confirm the addon is now available on Curseforge, and from the application. As Curseforge displays only the projects with at least a release file, i have needed to flag the version as release.

I also launched my patreon for people wanting support the development by this way, but will be also the place where you can stay tuned of news about SylingTracker.

It's the beginning of a journey !
