This is a very annoying issue. It just stops probably everyone from making the ideal super auto- smelter, instead everyone has to put the items in chests connected to hoppers, which takes even more iron. I think it's to do with not being able to place not full blocks on other not full blocks (e.g. like you can't place some redstone components or torches on top half slabs). Please fix it, everyone will be glad and have a better playtime if you do. Thank you.
