Monetization for YouTube Creators and for the dev-team #395

Hi, I'm the founder of the project Bond Platform (https://bond.pm) and I have an idea on how to add monetization to SkyTube app. This would allow users to support their favorite creators by paying a fixed monthly fee and the algorithm would distribute their fee to the creators they watched.

This can also enable SkyTube to receive its % to support further development of the project.

Hope to discuss it in more detail with the community and with the founder(s), @ram-on ? )

Hi @velsa, is there any advantage of using the Bond Platform instead of just cryptocurrencies?

velsa commented 5 years ago

Thanks for the question, @ram-on )

IMHO, there are tons of advantages. First off, crypto does not have a solution for recurring payments, while credit cards do. And monthly payment plans are the most convenient way for users to commit to something. The issue with Pay-Per-View or Pay-Per-Item approaches is that the user has to make a decision for every purchase, and therefore the conversion rate drops significantly, no matter if it's crypto or fiat.

If you want, we can discuss it on telegram or skype in more details. I am a very passionate advocate of sharing economies and I honestly think that it could be a great fit for SkyTube.

While I think greater monetization could be a great boon for open source in general, I hope there is no talk of making it mandatory to pay to use Skytube. Making it mandatory to pay for open source is often a slippery slope, and is controversial.

Actually, I was talking more about monetizing the work of YouTube creators, because, unfortunately the current situation with ads revenue on YouTube is not very promising and it seriously affects the quality of produced content.

I think there should be more patreon-like economic models on the market, where people decide which content is worth paying for and which should stay under the ad revenue scheme.

Unfortunately, in today's world (where everything has become expensive af.), monetization is needed... Hopefully enough support can be raised, for this project to thrive - as it's -so- gr8!! :))

Cool, um, just noticed that your website is experiencing issues (?!) and here's that (gateway) screenshot:
