Interesting, that is also a slightly different spam message.

FYI I also have a /var/lib/update-notifier/ in addition to the /usr/lib/update-notifier (though I'm on 23.04)

I will leave open in case anyone has any ideas -- I am not sure myself

Maybe note for now that for 20.04 and 22.04 https://github.com/Skyedra/UnspamifyUbuntu/blob/master/README.md#remove-dynamic-motd-spam does not work?

matkoniecz commented 5 months ago

And remove it once this systems are EOLed?

I agree would be good to update document with what steps work on what versions

Original report was regarding "Remove ESM Apps MOTD Spam" section not working on 22.04. @matkoniecz you linked to other section "Remove Dynamic MOTD Spam" -- do they both not work for you on both versions?

(Also do you get an error or does it just continue displaying the message?)

The sed command is unnecessary. This will work on any version 20.04 and later and is much easier:

touch /var/lib/update-notifier/hide-esm-in-motd
/usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-updates-available --force
