Build with Skynet's new MySky and DAC features (over $20,000 in prizes) #6

Open dghelm opened 3 years ago

dghelm commented 3 years ago

Build Challenge

Phase 1 of our 3 part "Built to Explore - A Dream of the Future" Hackathon

Prizes

Participation Prizes: Each team member will win $50, a year of our Skynet Pro premium account ($20/mo value), and a hackathon t-shirt

Prizes will be awarded in Siacoins, as determined by the exchange rate on the morning of the announcement.

Description

MySky and DACs are our latest innovations in the Skynet app ecosystem. Building on the incredible power of SkyDB, MySky lets a user track and access their data across any Skynet App with a single login. This enables a new file and permissions system across Skynet, improving the experience of users and developers alike. DACs build on this, allowing developers to build on shared resources using exposed APIs -- all without worrying that another application's code might ruin your data.

Your hackathon project should utilize MySky and the Content Record DAC, which will allow users to submit their activities to our leaderboard. And with this new data sharing, your app doesn't need to try and do everything -- pick a problem, create a user-focused app, and become part of the Skynet ecosystem!

Submission Requirements

*For mobile apps, data should be persisted to Skynet.

Submission Deadline

Build Phase Starts: April 9, 2021. Build Phase Ends: April 25, 2021 at 11:59 PM PST.

Finalists will be notified by May 5th, and asked to present their project live or by video recording on May 7th.

Grand Prize and Podium Prize Winners will be announced at the end of the Explore phase, two weeks later.

Prize Details

At the end of the Build phase, we will announce 8 (eight) $1000 winners. 4 will be reserved for individuals or teams considered to be "new Skynet builders".

We will announce the Grand Prize and Podium Prize winners at the end of the Explore phase of the hackathon. Judges will consider how users interact with a project during the explore phase when picking these winners. These winners may or may not be projects that won prizes after the Build phase. 1 Podium Prize will be reserved for an individual or team considered to be a "new Skynet builder."

"New Skynet Builders" includes any team where no developers have participated in a previous hackathon hosted by Skynet (including those on the Gitcoin platform). Hackathons in which Skynet was only a sponsor do not count toward this distinction. Design and non-technical team members are also not considered when making this distinction.

Prizes will be awarded in Siacoins, as determined by the exchange rate on the morning of the announcement.

SkyTransfer is an open source decentralized file sharing platform. Do you have a difficult time sharing files between devices? Are you writing an email and you need to attach different files? We want to improve the accessibility of Skynet's decentralised portals to the Sia cloud, by building a powerful set of features into our SkyDrop mobile app.

Inspired by the simplicity of AirDrop's file transfer between Apple devices, we hope to provide a similarly polished mobile UI/UX, supporting the use of locally generated QR code links to their encrypted file buckets.

Our tech is built with Xamarin C# SDKs, targeting Android and iOS natively for their UI code, separating business logic into separate libraries. We already have working QR based file transfer supported on both platforms, and are working on further integrations with the skapp ecosystem. We invite new contributors of all levels, and believe that with your help SkyDrop will be easy to become community maintained once we iron out some less documented code ;)

PS, the demo video is outdated in its design, but the core functionalities will be similar in the v1/. Watch this space to see our recent progress 👀 24) brotherlymite has started work.

Rift is a place where users can manage all their Skynet data. For this hackathon I am focusing on the "Rift News" social feature which aggregates MySky content records to generate a user specific news feed similar to Hacker News. Rift News gives users full control over the data that goes into their social news feeds. This user control includes both the content itself as well as the algorithms. Rift incorporates the idea of "transparent" algorithms (or AI) by allowing the user to adjust and personalize their algorithm. The Rift News UX also strives to surface and communicate to the user how their interactions will affect their feed, by showing things such as the keywords and concepts that will be recorded and fed into scoring after the user interacts with a piece of content. 26) kshenx3 has started work.
