Chrome App Migration? #4

Open bgiesing opened 8 years ago

In case you haven't seen yet @SlimSim, Google is discontinuing Chrome apps on every platform except Chrome OS. Any plans for this? Google says devs should convert it to either Progressive Web Apps or native packaging with Electron/NW.js.

Thanks! I did not know that.

What a bummer!

Does any body know if Android apps will be able to run in chrome on linux/mac/windows in the future?

bgiesing commented 8 years ago

@SlimSim Google has said Android apps would most likely never come to other platforms.

@SlimSim It's now approximately 4.5 years in the future. I don't know if Android apps can run in Chrome (the browser), but I have an Apps button in my current version [(90.0.4430.212 (Official Build) (64-bit)] and most of my apps (from back when apps were officially supported) seem to work.

Paid and Free ports of the Android OS that run on Win/Mac/Linux/etc. are available (running on top of the underlying OS and, I think, as boot CDs, a la Linux distros).

Android apps are supported officially on newer versions of Windows according to Microsoft, but that seems to merely provide the connected PC's screen/mouse/peripherals while the app runs on a networked android device. Other options are built into different Android front ends, and later versions of Android support the aforementioned networked access by default, AFAIK.
