@tammets @tirts This one is not for me to decide. We could go for that, but would it then make any sense to allow creation of Activity Item (question) elements as standalone?
Or to be more precise: do we want to be able to combine pre-prepared activity items into different activities?
I don't see that the proposed design precludes that—my thought is that you can, if desired, see all the other activity items in the area; this lets you decide if some part of the zoo is “undersupplied” with activity items, but it should also let you pick and match items to form an activity. (We can have a filter setting like “show only this item”, “show only items in this activity”, and “show all items”. Possibly some additional intermediate step before all items.)
I think the main advantage is that working from the map directly ties together all the different activities and gives the activity designer a better overview of the process with a minimum of moving between different pages and tabs.
Example for Item creation on map (although the menu should be bigger)
Noticed that this addresses a problem similar to #51. Is making changes to the activity/activity item creation something we should still consider at the moment?
Not sure right now, not my call.
I think we do not have enough resources currently to deal with this idea during 2017.
@kaimikael and I have discussed ways to make the Activity creation/editing more streamlined.
One aspect we'd like to see is to make the placement and creation of Activity Items a part of the Activity editor, to minimize the amount of clicks and back-and-forth going between menus. In order to achieve that, I propose to integrate a map into the Activity editor, from which you can create new activity items from the map, as well as import already created ones. When pressing the map, a menu that lets you chose what kind of Activity item show up. (Mock screenshot will be posted later today) The proximity setting should be visually represented on the map. Currently, the number does not illustrate what area the proximity covers. The input could be replaced by a slider and/or scalable on the map.
Remove unnecessary fields. Contact info, language, activity type could be removed from this menu. If different activity types will be a prominent feature, that should be a choice before this step, and the creation menu made to fit that type.
Difficulty should have more concrete categories. The number does not mean anything.
I'd also like to tinker with an alternative interface that looks more like making edits directly in-game (Writing title and descriptions in the Start Info box, for example)
