Well there are two problems with this. One, keystone.dll is very buggy and causes the game to become very unstable leading to crashes, like when Alt-Tabbing. Another problem is Chimera implements Quake color codes in its chat, and we want as many clients to have support for this as possible. Making the chat optional would mean we can no longer assume everyone with Chimera has support for Quake codes.
I understand that the low resolution of the internal fonts is a concern, but supporting the legacy chat system or replacement chats without all the features of Chimera is not something we want to do.

When will all the rare characters in names be supported?
They look awful with the chimera custom_chat.
Add chimera's "custom chat" disable option in chimera.ini, because it's a bit annoying and I like the original more.
