Install guide? #32

I'm coming back to modded after a year break and I cannot seem to get the textures to install and I'm starting to question my sanity. I mostly remember just dropping both the vanilla resource pack and modded pack in the install folder and it being good to go but it's not working out for me. Do I need to merge the two? Is there a decent step by step guide anywhere? All youtube videos are horribly outdated.

I appreciate any help on the matter!
