Character Sheets #29

I assume (hope) that there would be some way of uploading files (such as character sheets) to your account. Would it be possible to have them linked to their relevant PC, not just the user account?

Bonus points: if posts are attached to a particular PC, then some kind of direct link to the PC profile and their character sheet (if part of a game system that uses a 'crunch' sheet as well as a profile).

should these sheets be static PDFs or dynamic forms, editable by GMs and PC owners?

if the latter how smart should they be?

the former is easier to implement but leads to them getting out of date, the latter is harder, but more fun and bug prone.

For freeform, people like to design their own set of questions and make a copy-pastable template. Granted, there's no software support for sheets, but don't forget the freeform use case.

good point,

we'll probably wnat to do some sort of plugin thing here so we can have multiple forms/uploads/templates on a forum and games choose the one they want, or are given one by the parent board or something.... \ mor design work will be needed there.

Well, most game systems have standardized sheet formats.

Some kind of a wizard to create new types of sheets would be nice though. Fields themselves should be easy enough, the problem is if we want to tie rolls into them: stuff like 2d6 + STR is where it gets tricky.

I would probably suggest leaving it as a place where people can upload whatever sheet they wish to use (so static, I think?) due to just how many variations of sheets are available for even just a single game system.

On the other hand, having a few dynamic sheets for some of the more popular game systems bundled into the forum program would be rather nifty- one of those 'minor' perks that really impress me as a user when I find an offering that has them.
