<minor> Feature Request #455

Open manglewit opened 7 years ago

manglewit commented 7 years ago

Would it be possible to enable support for the HTML tag when entering Plain Old Text in comments, please?

While it is possible to achieve the same effect with Unicode t̶h̶u̶s̶ (or if I'm feeling jazzy, t̷h̷u̷s̷), it would be convenient to allow the tag.

As it is so minor, and there is a workaround, I won't be devastated if this is ignored, or marked as 'will not implement'

Thanks anyway.

And, of course GitHub supports the < s > tag. Strikes palm against forehead. Text should read:

Manglewit - idiot for not using Preview.

FSM, I'm covering myself in glory here.

Well...glory. It's brown. And sticky. And stinks. I'll call it glory.

Ha! That cheered me right up. Yeah, we can probably enable that functionality though it'll be the "del" tag instead of strike/s tags on account of strike/s has been deprecated since 1999. We're rolling out an update tonight but I can't say offhand if there needs to be a code change in the balanceTags sub to make sure people don't leave one open and strike the entire page with it.

manglewit commented 7 years ago

I'm glad it cheered you up. It just made me embarrassed.

Re: deprecated

Differences Between HTML 4.01 and HTML5

The element was deprecated in HTML 4.01, and was used to define strikethrough text.

The element is redefined in HTML5, and is now used to define text that is no longer correct.

The output is the same, it is just that the meaning is now the 'text that is no longer correct' - < del > is slightly different as it is defined as a editing markup instruction for text that has been deleted, usually with strikeout , often paired with < ins > (which underlines) for text that has been inserted. But I don't really mind: if it can be implemented easily, please go ahead with whichever approach you think best, including none.

Many thanks.

Oh fiddlesticks.

That glory just keeps on coming! Is it possible to actually drown in an over abundance of glory?

Correction, site update is next weekend. I'll see if we can get the del tag in before that since it's a pretty simple addition.

Thank you, Mighty One.

Oh indeed yes.

I was on my way out of the door to collect my son from a concert, and haste is the enemy of quality. I am suitably embarrassed.
