Exactly! That is what classes are in a Fire Emblem-esque game.
I'd say stay clear from using the exact same classes but have classes inspired from the series. Imo much better to make a game that is not just a remake :coffee: but we should probably not reinvent everything either.
Mages are usually both weak and strong against physical enemies, because while they attack with their magic value against their enemy's generally lower resistance, the enemy usually attacks with their strength against the mage's usually lower defence.
Bow users can hit enemies when they are not in reach, but cannot defend themselves when the enemy is in reach.
Flying units can outright ignore most movement related terrain effects and have generally higher movement range, but they are generally weak against bows and certain types of magic and take horrifying amounts of damage from those.
Mounted units (on horses) have generally higher movement range as well, but they have way higher penalties on moving through woods. There also exist weapons that specifically target mounted units.
And generally, the maximum stats and how they are distributed across the several stats do a bulk of the balancing in FE.
Removed chat specific part.
is this classes like 'warrior' 'monk' and 'archer'?
