I just had troubles with soldering the 5V->3.3V DCDC because i could not reach them properly and it always ended in a mess with some pins left floating
I changed the regulator to the legged version but left the old one on it aswell bc it is not sure if we will get the legged version
What do you mean with accesible feet?
The only packages where this would be hard to check is with pads that are under the package itself and not on the edge of the package. QFN could be checked visually without a problem. I actually like QFN Packages better than LQFP because QFN behaves better when reflow soldering with less tendency to build solder bridges. In the past i had better and more consistant results with QFN than LQFP and currently no problems with visuall controll of the connections or the soldering result.
For BGA or similar packages they should be avoided.
