Name? #101

A few people have suggested coming up with a better name and making it a more unique project than just cloning Paint.NET (which I was never really doing in the first place, but my goal was closer to Paint.NET than to say, GIMP or Photoshop)

Any ideas?

I came up with the backronym SPADE. (Simple Pixel (or Programmer) Art Dedicated Editor)

But Jeviny/kpars on IRC pointed out that while pixel art is the priority, saying dedicated in the title makes it less appealing to non-pixel-artists. He said that just "Spade" was fine as a name, and that names don't really need to have a meaning now.

Unless someone comes up with something better or has a big objection I'm going to start changing things to "Spade". I'm not too happy with the name, but it's about the best I can come up with, and more or less beats Paint.JAVA.

Pinging @BurntPizza to see what you think.

I'm thinking I'm one of the last people you should be asking for project names.

I do however think there's a pun to be made somewhere involving the last part of your name and a spade... Hmm.

I'm fine with it, but I'll be thinking about names for a bit now, I'll chime in if I think I have a good one. Maybe instead of changing things around yet (unless there's some form of urgency) just make preparations/refactorings to ease any name changes (anything that displays the app name queries it from the main class, etc.)

Wow. I occasionally try to make some of my projects relate to my username but this time it was completely by accident, lol.

Changing the name isn't too hard. My license header script can update all the licenses with one command and all the rest can be tracked down quickly with command line.

There's not too much urgency but I want to release a beta build sometime over the next few days, and with the big gap since the last release, now is the best time to change the name that we'll probably ever get. I'll update the name in the code on master tomorrow, and if we can't come up with something better in two days time, I'll change the rest then.

New changes are on the 'spade' branch.

Once I've added the things I wanted before a beta release I'll merge it in and change the repo name and stuff. (Unless you have come up with a different name)

Oh, and an icon:

(Looks a bit better at normal resolution)

Eh? Eh?

EDIT: or maybe only "dipped"

I don't know if I like the bright colours. They especially don't work very well when scaled down to icon size (16x16).

Just a random thought: It may be interesting to have a range of different icons for the different build types. (dev, beta, release).
