Changes:

Added Transparency 'Background' to the Image-display.
Added 'Effects'-Menu to the Toolbar, and moved all Image-Effect's into it.
Added 'Grid-Maker' Effect to the 'Effects'-Menu.
Added a lot of comments troughout the code, just to make some things mroe clear. Comments are important!
Bug-Fixes whereever possible!

I was just about to start working on the transparent background but just before I opened up Eclipse this pull request came through.

Nice work. That MakeGrid effect makes creating blank spritesheets much, much easier.

Do you have any idea how to replace the mouse cursor with the tool icon?

Yes, I have. I will try to put in a small system to do it! Or you go and google for 'Java Change Cursor Image'.
