I have found a fix for this, open Command Promt as Administrator, an run these
two commands:
c:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\syncom.dll
c:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\synctrl.dll
(used this solution:

Upgraded HP DV7 with Windows 7 64bit to Windows 8 RTM, but Twofingerscroll is
not working anymore. I registered the DLL's as described, but am now getting an
error "...driver still doesn't report multiple fingers." Tried uninstalling
Synaptics drivers, reboots etc. Going back to Windows 7 for the time being - no
point in going backwards...

Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or made a clean install?
I wonder whether this issue with multiple fingers just occurs after upgrading.
I tried reinstalling the driver after upgrading from Win 7, but still get the
error that the "driver still doesn't report multiple fingers".

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this fix. I was seriously considering going back to W7 if
I lost two finger scroll. It's that useful.

Running the two commands fixed it for me. Wouldn't run after upgrading to

Hi Sebastian, I think I am running 32 bit windows 8. I am a total amateur with
computers but really want to restore 2 finger scrolling and also reduce the
mouse pad sensitivity. I tried installing the synaptic drivers separately but
this made no difference. Its just really strange that the options have just
gone in windows 8!
Thanks in advance for your help
