Remove platforms (too buggy) #54

Live, you did excellent work with the platforms but they are not going to work. There are too many bugs and the AI cannot defend them and cannot recapture them. Plus, weird bugs happen like ability to spawn on flag or on respawn heli...Arma just can't handle shit over water. Can you remove?

Also, if players choose not to kill all the AI...they stay there the entire match, which is a hit on performance

I think this bugs can be fixed, removing platforms puts us with other noob BECTI servers, we need to keep them and fix the bugs.

for the respawn we have "respawn in cargo" planned.

I'm 99.9% sure the bugs cannot be fixed. The issue has to do with objects over water, which is something even BIS has not been able to address. Right now, they're 550 towns that are taking SERVER resources and hardly anyone attacks. My recommendation, remove the platforms and add "underwater" objectives where full dive gear is required in shallow water areas. We can put a full size submarine wreck underwater and make it look like something important plus have DIVER resistance/occupation forces, that would work better than the current platforms, they're just too buggy and too frustrating.

Im positive we can fix the issues with the naval platorms, personally i see lots of teams taking naval towns and i have not seen many bugs.....other then the occasional unit spawning under the platform but that is an easy fix.

Also, it's quite an issue that 1 player can cap a 550 town simply by hiding...the boats get stuck and don't move when they try and retake it. The player simply spawns at base to get away and the commander deactivates the town; often leaving 4-5 boats with 3 ai each sitting there all game long. We're trying to squeeze as many fps as possible and this is also a source of fps loss, idle AI sitting near flags stuck. On Mar 8, 2016 11:43 PM, "Liveandletdie" notifications@github.com wrote:

One way is to spawn ai on platform with defense statics, and get rid of boats

I personally love naval warefare and i think we really need to iron it out, especially in anticipation of Tanoa. As i said before i think all issues can be resolved with some creative coding. If we can find a way as omon said to spawn on structures that would be ideal, maybe if we place objects using eden the game might recognize them better......ill do some testing. Another solution is to increase the cap radius of naval towns to the entire circle. We also need to add in some better respawn script for all naval respawns, towns/respawn boats, etc...

Naval stuff is one of the only things we have that other BECTI servers do not, that sets us apart.

It's only like 7k tho, not even enough for a t-55. You could cap them all and probably not have enough to buy a wipeout. I mainly see noobs going for them, and the residual from a 550 is a nice bonus to get things rolling when a base gets built in a bad area... Also they spawn a Coast Guard mini game when they need a rescue lift from them after their boats get shot up :)

I mean, not to get literal or anything, but that's been my #1 interaction with the naval towns, and boy are they always real happy to see me show up.

Any chance we could alter the Flag position so the flag itself is over the water? that way to capture the platform you have to kill all the boats? or use AI air units, not much chance of capturing a downed resistance helicopter over the water!

Also if the boats are having major issues navigating around the platform why not raise the platform up on a pillar above the water so boats can pass freely underneath it? and have a ladder extending down to the water.

i think the best thing might be to just spawn ai on platforms alone with some static machine guns and grande guns, and get rid of boats.
