Identify a Golden Data Set #46

Open captainkirk99 opened 4 years ago

This is related to #45

The idea is that Golden Data Set includes the minimum set of data for @NiklasPhabian to use in his examples.

A larger, Extended Data Set (a.k.a. Platinum Data Set) will include the Golden Data Set, and also additional sensors and geographic range.

Some discussion:

Niklas Griessbaum griessbaum@ucsb.edu Apr 24, 2020, 2:50 PM to Kwo-Sen, James, James, Michael, me Dear Colleagues,

My suggestion for the platinum set as follows: On the 2020-03-01, Mammoth lake had a small snowstorm with about 10 cm ablation (this information is also accessible from UCSB's field site CUES) The month prior to the storm has been mostly cloud-free and the week following as well.

As a spatial extent, I suggest we use the San Joaquin Watershed (gpkg attached); approximate by a bounding box of -119.8, 36.9 -118.6,37.8

For the temporal extent, the one-week time period from the 2020-02-27 to 2020-03-04.

E.g. resulting in such a LADSWERB request for MOD09, MYD09, VNP09; and about 10 granules for each of these products. It also appears that we have a set of 22 Landsat 8 scenes intersecting the area and time,

Below Modis Aqua True color for 2020-02-27 to 2020-03-04 (from worldview)

Best, N

Well you gotta love that MODIS imagery. Beautiful! What an instrument!

The link for the ladsweb query for platinum set was lost in the text above; here it is: https://ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/search/order/4/MOD09--6,MForYD09--6,VNP09--5000/2020-02-27..2020-03-03/DB/-119.8,37.8,-118.6,36.9

We also have the platinum set on schiss: http://schiss.eri.ucsb.edu:8888/opendap/golden_set/

OK, you seem to have a golden set all ready to go at this location. Shall we just use that?

NiklasPhabian commented 4 years ago

ah; damn! Let me rename this. The one week period is the platinum set, not the golden set! So here, the platinum set http://schiss.eri.ucsb.edu:8888/opendap/platinum_set/

And here the yet-to-be defined, empty golden set http://schiss.eri.ucsb.edu:8888/opendap/golden_set/

OK, I can generate sidecar files for the MOD09 files in the platinum set. How do I upload them?

Thanks for the http string to download the platinum data set! I am downloading them now...
