Need to reset the level after the space for the '='.

MathML:

<math><msub><mo>&#x222B;</mo><mrow><mi>u</mi><mo>=</mo><mi>a</mi></mrow></msub></math>
Returns   "⠐⠮⠩⠥⠀⠨⠅⠀⠁⠻"
Should be "⠮⠰⠥⠀⠰⠨⠅⠀⠁"
