This is a know bug, see
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=991788
I just write here for information.
Using xfce on laptop, if you close lid and open it, then your screen can get black (or maybe you can enter your password but then you come to a black screen). Then for some users, they find they can get out of black screen by moving mouse, but some others find they have to restart xorg or use some tricks.
This bug is due to xfce4-settings. it uses upower to manage screen but after some version update they do not work fine anymore. This bug has been reported to xfce and there is workaround that to compile xfce4-settings with some parameters. However, debian does not use such parameters.
For us it is possible to workaround by: 1, masking upower ;2, removing light-locker and xfce4-screensaver ( and you can use xscreensaver instead). All these workarounds do not have good experience though.
btw, sorry that I have not come here for months. I not only got depressed but get covid. Maybe I can come back for help now.
