Would you accept a PR in README.md that explains how to install the demo without docker?

FWIW, I have the demo running via dokku at https://phpwa-demo.survos.com/

Excellent. That's a good idea. I will update the README file as it is preferable to use the Makefile commands and the frontend part is missing.
