as automation (as in the mod) but you have to build an intermediary machine to connect them rather than autoconnecting via adjacent, to make it more progressive/less cheaty in nature, so you gotta work hard for that simplification of machine related tasks.

this could be done with a new path type to represent conveyor belts

My mod AutomateChests partially does this by requiring hoppers to be "inserted" into chests before its considered a valid machine group, adding a cost of entry and gating the entire functionality behind qi's room
