Companion Planting mod #655

Companion planting is when you plant specific crops next to each other so that they both benefit, such as one plant attracting pollinators for another or planting tall crops that provide shade for low-growing crops. The reverse side of this is avoiding planting specific crops together as certain combinations will decrease soil quality or increase the risk of shared diseases.

A companion planting mod would be an interesting way to add more complexity to crops by providing buffs such as faster growth speed or increased yield if positive crop combinations are planted together or debuffs if negative crop combinations are planted.

Totally interesting idea! I like how it will add a new layer in deciding the layout and type of plants. Can we penalize ancient fruit monoculture?

Though what exactly the combination needed some thought to get it fit right in the game.

This is not exactly the same thing but spacechase hybrid crop engine might worth looking into as a starting point in developing the mod. At the very least it provide example to detect different type of planted crops.

I'd recommend making companion planting itself a framework. That way content pack modder can help add in the content and lessen the burden on the developer. It also likely lead a higher variety of content to cater different interest.
