Show actual modifications on the ship schematic as upgrades are added or removed. even if the art is filler or simple it would show the player what the ship looks like with upgrades added. this could evolve to a very cool system if the ship's systems are defined in a data or Lua file specifying the x,y position of each component on the ship. then modders can design totally custom ships for the game with systems located anywhere they want.
