[Feature] Remove dead code and obsolete comments

I'm always frustrated when [...] The code base has quite a few comments that aren't valid for our existing code and quite a bit of dead, commented out code. Removing this after testing will clean up the code base, making it easier to read.

Mostly done, a few dead comments have not been removed as the features may be re-implimented.
