Operating System Agnostic / Linux Support #17

Hi, the developers page http://developer.steelseries.com/gamesense/index.html mentions that the tools are operating system agnostic. I have a laptop with a steelseries keyboard (just 3 regions) and run Ubuntu. How would I go about utilizing these tools on this operating system, from a developers perspective?

ToadKing commented 8 years ago

When we say "operating system agnostic", we mean that the tools you use to interact with your devices does not change with the operating system you use. It's the same API on Windows and Mac.

Unfortunately, we do not support Linux at this time.

neural-loop commented 8 years ago

I think there is a huge chasm between 'only supported on Windows and Mac' vs 'operating system agnostic'. That sort of claim is going to disappoint users that purchase products and expect to have an interface to work with, such as myself.

When Linux support? @ToadKing @JHunz

Good question @AlonsoEnrique, will reopen this issue.

I'm thinking of buying MSI GS62VR, but Linux is not support in Steel Series and gamesense sdk

I'm sorry friend. I understand the pain :disappointed: I have the MSI Stealth Pro and it is the case for me too.

Would be great if the specifications for communication with the devices could be opened up so an open source version of the HTTP server could be implemented on Linux.

I really wanted to use the Arctis Wireless screen from Linux.

As of a few years ago (when I worked at SS) I had the server (I didn’t bother with GUI) running in a Raspberry Pi with Rasbian. So it’s not a functional issue, but a time and marketing one.

The server would be more than enough. Wonder if it could be released as a non supported beta or so.

Fyi I was using it just for gamesense.

I would also love to play with the server on linux, any updates? As @snigel said, even a non supported version would be more than enough.

It's been 5 years now, would be really nice to have the server part.
