StefanJAuer / RaySAR

RaySAR is a 3D synthetic aperture radar (SAR) simulator which enables to generate SAR image layers related to detailed 3D object models. Moreover, it enables one to localize the 3D positions and surface intersection points related to reflected radar signals. In particular, RaySAR helps to understand the nature of signal multiple reflections at man-made objects (e.g. building structures) or artificial shapes. Scene models with different levels of detail can be processed - from digital surface models (DSMs) to high-end 3D structures - which can be defined in relative or absolute world coordinates. RaySAR can be run on Windows / Linux and is based on an adapted version of the open-source ray tracer POV-Ray.

Hi, Thanks for a very detailed explanation on SAR. I tried to simulate a model data - \RaySar_Test_Models\Test_Building and I made the required changes to the Building_Detailed.pov file regarding the rendering in the QUICKRES.INI. But I don't see a Contributions.txt file being created when I run the .pov file. Am I looking in the wrong place? And I'd very much appreciate if you could increase the guidance content on the RaySAR. Thanks!

Please check whether you have run the adapted POV-Ray version (compiled exe file --> only this one produces the output file; not standard POV-Ray). As an alternative reason, the header in the POV-Ray file may be still commented, i.e. global_settings{SAR_Output_Data 1 SAR_Intersection 1}. SAR_Output_Data has to be 1.

I hope this helps :-).

Hello I had global_settings{SAR_Output_Data 1 SAR_Intersection 1} and generated Contributions.txt, however, it is empty. There are data stored in an include file "...POV_geom.inc" Thanks in advance for your help!

Hm, it may be that the camera is not looking at the object, yet, i.e. no intersections between rays and objects are occurring. Please check whether you see the object in the rendered optical image.

Hi,

If the path to the model file (where contribution.txt is located) is defined in the initial GUI RaySAR.fig, loading the data in the GUI Maps.fig should be possible. Depending on the amount of points in contributions.txt, it may take about one to two minutes to load. It is hard to figure out why the loading does not finalize in your case. An error in contibutions.txt will lead to an error message in the MATLAB editor window. Did that happen?

Regards Stefan

Hi, Thanks for a very detailed explanation on SAR. I tried to simulate a model data - \RaySar_Test_Models\Test_Building and I made the required changes to the Building_Detailed.pov file regarding the rendering in the QUICKRES.INI. Contributions.txt file is created when I run the .pov file but when I am loading Raysar 2D simulation , it is not loading. waited for 2 days also but still showing data is loading please wait. I have checked my contribution.txt , data is not empty , points are there but still not loading. where am i dong wrong? Please help

Problem is solved , Path problem is there only. Thanks for your support.
