Are you sure you think it's a good idea to add an icon to each sector on the sectors' grid? I've the feeling it would clutter up the zonemap.

In current state each (explored) sector has either a name or gridnumber already with optional icon. As in other suggestion, gridnumber should not be 'big' central, but remain in upperleft corner. That leaves enough space for name or icon. I feel the icon would really help the GM (it should be off in Player view) for quick overview map. If you allow color to the icon, the GM can even set the different icons matching the enviroment to the same colour so it's not so obvious. (eg for me yellow = ruins, brown = nature). Or semi-transparent... GMs can handle cluttered map, the more info the better..

Naturally not every sector will get an icon, but I agree that there could be a bigger selection, even if many are simply other alternatives on the existing icons. Maybe you could offer alternative sets, for example the existing materialdesignicons.com set, plus one from game-icons.net would be sufficient?

In addition, I think the icons in GM view could be made slightly smaller and moved to the bottom corner of the sector, to make things a bit more legible and the icons to be more readable when text is used as well.

Meanwhile, all MDI icons are in fact already available. Only a few of them are showcased, but if you type the complete name of an icon not in the list, you'll be able to select it.

Just head to MDI icons website and click an icon to display its name.
