Closed astronomer999 closed 1 year ago

astronomer999 commented 1 year ago

Expected Behaviour: in oculars box on screen in upper right corner, used to be able to change any ocular with arrows to right or left of ocular, e.g., ocular, telescope, lens, etc.

Actual Behaviour: Can't change any ocular in the box. No arrows to right or left.

Describe or maybe attach a screenshot?

Steps to reproduce: Load program, click on object, click on ocular view button or sensor button. Try to change.

Logfile:

If possible, attach the logfile log.txt from your user data directory. Look into the Guide for its location.

Could you please check qt5-based package?

astronomer999 commented 1 year ago

Thanks--what is the qt5-based package? I just downloaded Stellarium 1.1 yesterday, so I assume that I have the latest version.

what is the qt5-based package?

The stellarium-1.1.1-qt5-win64.exe file from the Releases page.

10110111 commented 1 year ago

There are two problems aside from the lack of arrow buttons here:

No--screen run at resolution of monitor.

This doesn't preclude scaling being in use. You may have anything other than 100% in the Display settings, as described here.

gzotti commented 1 year ago

https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium/releases contains packages with qt5 and qt6 in the file name. I doubt this should be a problem with your 2060 card, though. I see many issues in your logfile. Do other buttons (left and bottom button bars) show correctly?

astronomer999 commented 1 year ago

Thanks for your research and comment. As far as I can tell, the left and bottom buttons work correctly. Is it necessary to modify the oculars file for the 1.1 version of Stellarium? The last version I was using before installing this version was 0.20, as I recall.

Thanks! I tried changing the scale to 100% from 150%, but that had no effect on the problem. I also tried running Stellarium on my other monitor (I have two monitors connected to my computer), but the problem was the same on that monitor as well.

  • Lots of QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap messages in the log
  • The screenshot having unnaturally blurred but aliased text, which would be the case if scaling settings were overridden in the shortcut settings for Stellarium.exe to some compatibility mode. Apparently, here Qt doesn't have a chance to use its ability for scaling, and Windows does it on its own.

No, the format did not change. This is just something about GUI buttons and -- I still think -- some aspect of screen scaling. But @10110111 knows better about this now.

What is the value of arrow_scale setting in ocular.ini config file?

astronomer999 commented 1 year ago

It is 0 (zero).

I also tried the other commands to switch oculars: CTRL + ] and CTRL + [ These don't work either.

It is 0 (zero).

This is the problem then. Set it to the default 150, and the buttons should reappear.

This same thing is happening to me now and I can't even find an ocular.ini file or any .ini file that contains arrow_scale.

Update: I found ocular.ini under AppData and it is indeed set to 100. This is on latest 23.2 qt6 on windows 11.

Update: Changing the value to something like 110 -- then set it back if desired -- made the buttons appear again.
