uAlberta Special Topics Courses not captured #19

The specific topics for courses with variable topics are not captured. For example, HIST 460 is a variable topics course with one topic offered in Fall 2019 (Histories of the Rocky Mountains) and two other, different topics in Winter 2020 (1885 in Western Canada / Fort Edmonton and the Fur Trade). This is really common in Arts departments. Another example: RELIG 270 this fall is "Contemporary Issues in Religion" which doesn't mean much, but this particular offering is Gender, Body, Sexuality, Islam -- very specific.

The topics are reflected in BearTracks (usually) but not captured by the schedule tool, and so the real titles of the topics courses also can't show up in a search. If a student searches "mountain" or "Islam", courses like the above do not show up.

Would it be possible to capture these specific topics in the search tool?

Unfortunately I can't start on this right away, but sometime after the 16th of August I should be able to. Closer to the 16th I'll provide an update here. Thank you for supporting the site, glad to know it's of use.

Unfortunately the information needed to complete this feature is not publically available. I've emailed the IST at the UAlberta to see if they can provide me with access, but I'm not sure if they will. If they can't then I don't think this feature will be completable since I would have to rely on a student login that could get revoked at any time.

Sorry for the late notice, but the data on topic courses is not publically available. I emailed the IST and this is the response they gave me:

I don't believe the information you're requesting in available within LDAP. All the calendar data that's in LDAP is publicly available with nothing held back. Unfortunately, I don't know where the information you're requesting would be stored.

Unfortunately because of this, it doesn't seem I can finish this request. I'm going to keep the issue open incase a solution is found.
