Support disabling all alarms #124

Open saercnap opened 9 years ago

saercnap commented 9 years ago

I'd prefer to use xdrip as a silent bridge from my receiver to my watch. The non-configurable low alarm is loud and difficult to quiet when compared to the dexcom. Please allow turning it off, even if just for users of the official receiver.

The low alarm also seems to fire spurriously, i've not been able to correlate how/why that occurs.

saercnap commented 9 years ago

Additionally, I tried to turn off the ability for xDrip to create notifications in the android system settings (long press the notification, etc) and the sound still fires.

StephenBlackWasAlreadyTaken commented 9 years ago

Under settings, bg alert settings set the profile to silent and you should be good to go!

Ok, I didn't think to look there.

Does "Override Silent Mode" in the AlertList refer to the device mode or the xDrip mode?

AdrianLxM commented 9 years ago

It refers to the phone state "Silent Mode" you usually put your phone in when you are texting in class for that the lecturer can pretend he doesn't notice ;)

Switching to silence in the xDrip settings actually silences all xDrip-alerts.

saercnap commented 9 years ago

Super, thanks!

tzachi-dar commented 9 years ago

saercnap: If you are getting low alarms when not low, and running on a late version of xdrip I would like to debug this. Can you enable logging and send me that file?

Thanks Tzachi

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

What about if the only alarm you want to turn off or silence is the "low alert (unchangeable) 55" one, while leaving any other alarms intact and audible, is that somehow possible? I know it says it's "unchangeable", but is there some sort of workaround I could utilize? Otherwise the drawback is that we have to turn off the same alarm on two separate devices, the dexcom receiver (which also doesn't let you turn off its low alert) and the xdrip app. It doesn't really make sense having 2 alarms bothering you about the exact same thing, at exactly the same time, at least for me it doesn't, although I'm sure some people with hypoglycemia unawareness might find something like this extraordinarily beneficial and life saving.

tzachi-dar commented 8 years ago

Do you use the other low alarms?

@tzachi-dar As far as on the dexcom receiver, I have the low alarm/alert turned off, meaning only the "55 alert" that you can't turn off remains on. And on the xDrip app I only have a high alarm set up (plus the "low alert (unchangeable) 55" one). These are the only alarms I am currently utilizing.

AdrianLxM commented 8 years ago

@DominikStefan, if you only want to turn off the 55-alarm, you would need to patch it. We had a patch for that and agreed upon to have the next beta not having it as "undeletable" alert. But it somehow was forgotten about that.

tzachi-dar commented 8 years ago

You can go to the snooze dialog and press disable low alerts. Than for time choose "untill enabled" and you should be fine. בתאריך 8 ביונ 2016 12:10,‏ "AdrianLxM" notifications@github.com כתב:

@AdrianLxM I'm glad to hear this is something you thought about as well. I would love to see that patch incorporated into the next beta. There are quite a few of us that would benefit quite a bit from this. It's one less diabetes related thing we'd have to worry about.

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

@tzachi-dar Thanks for the tip! I'll try disabling the low alert from the snooze alert screen the next time I dip below 55.

tzachi-dar commented 8 years ago

you can snooze it right now from the menu... בתאריך 8 ביונ 2016 12:26,‏ "Dominik Stefan" notifications@github.com כתב:

@tzachi-dar From this menu: Menu > Snooze Alert When I go to the "Snooze Alert" screen it just says, "No active alert exists", and below that it says, "DISABLE ALL ALERTS".

What version of xdrip are you using (you can check that i'm status). I think it is an old beta. בתאריך 8 ביונ 2016 12:35,‏ "Dominik Stefan" notifications@github.com כתב:

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

Or did you mean the, "SNOOZE ALERT BEFORE IT FIRES" option on the EditAlert (low alert (unchangeable) 55) screen?

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

Let me check the version I'm using.

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

Ok, it looks like I'm using version: "415d549-experimental-2015.09.29"

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

That's probably what it is, an older version. Do I upgrade the current version (don't see the option to do that anywhere, but maybe I missed something) or do I install the new version after first deleting the old version?

AdrianLxM commented 8 years ago

In the latest Beta there should also be the possibility to just disable all high or all low alerts.

You can simply install the newer one over the older one. It will be an update then and you shouldn't lose the data.

I don't linke this alert 55 that can't be removed. DIsabling all alerts is not a good solution here because you may have other alerts that you don't want to disable.

For myself i created a version

In case you want to try, here it is : https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=4457AB6D6B9FFF80!521&authkey=!AIO-hn6LHYEcHoY&ithint=file%2capk

(you'll have to delete your existing installation because it's signed with another key) It's been aligned with the master 22 days ago.

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

@AdrianLxM This is very exciting! I just upgraded to the newest beta and it all went very smoothly and quickly. Now my low alerts are disabled until I re-enable them again. This is a great solution for someone in my situation who does not have any other low alerts set up. Although I still hope to see the option to turn off individual alarms incorporated into an upcoming beta version. And good to hear that no existing data will be lost or have to be entered again.

AdrianLxM commented 8 years ago

@JohanDegraeve, If you have the feature to delete the 55 alarm already meregable with current master, could you please do a pull request. We already said we wanted to do this but no one did it so far.

That would be great, thank you.

tzachi-dar commented 8 years ago

No need for a pull request. I'll add code that allows for to disable alerts, and then people can disable this alert as well.

Thanks Tzachi

@AdrianLxM alert 55 : i made a pr end of last year, But it wasn't accepted. I had the impression that for parents off T1's this feature is more usefel than adults with T1

DominikStefan commented 8 years ago

@JohanDegraeve Good point. Say someone wants an alert at 65 (maybe because that's where they start feeling low symptoms) instead of 55, in which case they are out of luck and either have to deal with two alerts ringing back to back minutes apart (once their BG drops from 65 to 55), or settle for an alert at level 55, which may not be ideal for certain people under certain circumstances. I don't mean to complain here as I find the xDrip app extremely valuable, I just want to point out some of the drawbacks of not having the freedom to set the levels of our own diabetes device/app alarms.

A similar thing has bothered me about dexcom (which I also find extremely valuable in managing my day to day diabetes) in that they (maybe inadvertently) make diabetes related decisions for us, when, to me, it's clearly not their choice to make. For example, why do they prevent us from setting a "high" alert at 110? Or at 100? It's called a "high" alert, but really they are just artificially limiting what levels we can set alerts at. Which not only does not make sense (I understand that the 55 alert is there for liability reasons and has the potential to save lives, but the "high" alert you should be able to set at whatever level you want), but can also be dangerous, say for a type 1 on the verge of losing their eyesight due to one of the many forms of diabetic eye disease that are out there, and unless they keep their blood sugars under 110 or so (or as close to non-diabetic levels as possible) they risk losing their vision. I guess I just don't like having these sorts of life altering decisions made for me by device manufacturers that might not know anything about my unique diabetes situation.

Thank you for offering your tweaked version of xDrip, I just downloaded it in case I ever want to take advantage of its unique functionality. It was nice of you to share it with us.

@StephenBlackWasAlreadyTaken @AdrianLxM @tzachi-dar Do you guys know if, specifically, the NightWatch cgm watchface would work on the Pebble watch now that they started supporting android wear apps (https://blog.getpebble.com/2015/02/16/ad-23-public/)? I really, really want that scrollable, zoomable 24 hour blood glucose graph accessible right on my wrist.

I ask because none of the traditional android wear watches have the kind of battery life I'm looking for. If this works, it would be the perfect solution to that.

AdrianLxM commented 8 years ago

As far as I understood this press release, they support android wear notifications. this means that you can have certain actions added to a notification (like opening the app directly) and pebble can also trigger them.

This has nothing to do with the watchfaces. They need totally different runtime environments.
