Use Indicator Applet #163

It will be quite useful to integrate the app into indicator-applet (on ubuntu 
linux)

Another good reason is that from 11.04, there won't be support for 
non-indicator applets in the system tray.

However the whole "indicator-applet" thing only affects Ubuntu and its 
derivatives.  There are many, many more Linux systems about that will continue 
to support the notification panel.

Untrue, openSUSE will adopt the ayatana project (that includes the indicator) 
in 11.4, and I would guess that other rpm based distributions (fedora) will 
follow that path.

See cloudsn: there you can decide whether you use the classic systray or the 
indicator applet. It would be nice if android-notifier would support this.

For me the indicator-applet exists for "persistent notification" like email, im 
or similar and people tend to avoid having systray icons because there's an 
unified place for that (at least I do). A phone call or text message fits in 
the same category and that's why it makes sense for android notifier.

That persistent notification should be in the Ubuntu messaging menu (envelope 
icon in the tray) like notification of emails, chat messages, social network 
feeds...

Just as a quick update: The notification indicator is on the way to become a 
freedesktop.org standard for linux desktops and the KDE team has already 
started to implement the APIs so software providing indicators will work on KDE 
as well soon.
Maybe this news can help "repriotitizing" this request...

Currently this is not usable on Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) with Unity as the 
notification pops top left which ends up being hidden under the launcher. It is 
also black text on dark gray background which can't be read. Is there a 
settings menu someplace that I am missing. Would like to change the 
text/background color and move the notification to the bottom right? I also 
agree that it should be incorporated properly as an indicator applet or into 
the notify-osd system. What to do now though...

I agree with #11 & #8. I use elementaryOS. It doesn't have tray too.

Without an indicator one cannot configure application settings as there is not 
way to invoke settings window. For me this is a critical issue.
Is someone ever going to look into this?

That's what I've thought. :(
"Android Desktop Notifications" is not an option for me as I prefer desktop 
level solutions, not browser ones. Fairly short lag is another priority.
Unity keeps useless on and on...

In Ubuntu in some cases system notification icon will be missing and popup 
bubble will be displayed from top-left corner in screen.

The version is : 0.5.1

To fix this problem:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gurqn/systray-trusty
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
