Corrupted saves are still an issue and this project needs attention. #185

There hasn't been any work here in 7 months, but I just started using it and already have a corrupted save. Please don't let this project die @Drenn1

I'll take a look and see what's failing specifically.

ParzivalWolfram commented 3 years ago

Or not, as dkP exploded spectacularly on installation.

It's frustrating but I'm not sure what to say, since I've used v0.5.2 quite a lot and haven't run into issues myself. I've mostly been using it on my 3DS installed as DSiWare.

More information would help such as:

I'm not planning to do more substantial development because dealing with regressions is extremely exhausting - that is, I like the general state v0.5.2 is in and don't want to break it - but I'll make an update for something like this if it's an issue that can be fixed.

I'm trying to be extra careful now so I turned autosaving off and I read that I should be using the X button after saving to actually save it to the SD.

I'm using the Gateway 3DS blue cart. It did only happen once, the first time, maybe it was some kind of fluke but one thing that may be notable is the fact I had it in sleep mode for several hours before it happened. Could have also been autosaving being buggy (yes I had it on). I haven't tried any other emulators, and I haven't tried any other microSD.

Also I'm glad to know you haven't forgotten us :) I'm new here but I would've hated to have found a project just to discover it had too been abandoned.

How are you loading it from the Gateway3DS, and can you send me whatever copy of the emulator?

When Gateway3DS released it relied on a DS mode exploit involving profile data. Therefore, included with the Gateway3DS cartridge was an R4 cartridge with the same branding (but blue background - hence it is the "blue cart". You would download the files provided from the Gateway3DS website (rip, but the files are all still available via Web Archive), then included with them were the files needed for the blue cart. This included a .nds file which would run the exploit on your console.

TL;DR: It's an R4 cart. I'm running it as literally anyone else would. I'm just using latest release from this repo.

Haven't really been using it much because I got full Super Game Boy 2 support working in emulation on my PC. Ended up having to use bsnes instead of Higan for that one, Higan was far too laggy.

@Noxillio Why are you using a Gateway cart? That's practically asking for a brick. Why not just hack your console and load the .nds with GodMode9 or TWiLight Menu++? Heck, you could even just install TWiLight Menu++ on the Gateway cart.

I've never had issues with the Gateway cart, but that's beside the fact that this was with a DS Lite. I prefer the cart anyway in most cases to be completely honest, no matter what console I'm using - just because it's less time-consuming to load games on than generating a CIA and unscrewing my N3DS just to get the SD out, etc, etc. Also, this was 7 months ago and I'm not very concerned with it anymore. If I remember correctly, the issue went away on its own.

Fair point. I was figuring that you would be using it on a 3DS, and with the whole brick code thing, I wasn't sure if you were stubborn, clueless, or if I was just being me again. Turned out to be door number 3, as per usual! Sorry to bother you with stupid me and their stupid impulses. ;)

It's okay, everybody makes mistakes. And if it's the brick code I'm thinking of then I believe that only really comes from the .NDS that originally was required to make red cart work.
