Spikey hair and most other graphical glitches can be solved by turning off the
VU0
Recompiler in CPU Options. Please check and confirm if the burn effect is also
caused
by VU0 Recompiler. (I have a feeling it's not, and that it's actually due to
GSdx).
If the burn effect persists, test the scene in GSdx Software mode, to see if
that fixes
it.

I am positive this issue was fairly recent as well, I'll have to compile some
old
revisions to find out which one though.

Need a retest with the latest SVN (or beta) please. This thread has solutions
to most
of the problems of the game. http://forums.pcsx2.net/thread-9355-page-4.html

Tested with svn 2425 and gsdx 2423. The burned screen seems to be gone, but now
any
resolution other than internal gets cut screen with vertical strips. 1020x1020
1200x1200 no longer works. Hair issue is still here.

Did you even read the thread I posted above? Hair issue is due to VU0rec and if
disabled it's gone.
That is a known GSdx limitation, custom internal resolutions WILL cause
upscaling
problems. You can try using the scaler options that try to get around these
problems
but chances are they won't

For me, disabling VU0rec just gets hairless characters, and messes up with the
speed.

Uh no it isn't :P Happens randomly and only goes away if you switch from HW to
SW and vice versa (then shows up again randomly). Loading saved states can also
cause this
