Us modders are not happy because they're redistributing the mods without crediting the original owner or actually using the original download links. Latter does not generate any income for the modder and, believe it or not, for some this income is very important.
GitHub is a good way to organize all these fraudulent sites and keeping a good interaction with the community. If you really want to discuss the topic, though, I believe the Discord is a better place for that rather than a GitHub issue.
There are many reasons mod authors care about this.
In general, repost sites do not provide any benefit to the player, infect users with malware, and diminish the already small amount of profit the content creators make. Repost sites are entirely indefensible.
Edit: I should add, the purpose of this campaign is not to stop other people from redistributing mods. It is against websites that abuse and exploit the community. Sending mods you like to a friend, making modpacks, and having modded community servers are all really great. The majority of modders love to see people share and enjoy their mods together. Repost sites are not any of these things, they ONLY exist to profit off of misleading players, and that is what we are against.
Please talk to us on our official Discord (can be found at stopmodreposts.org) if you want to discuss about something like this.
Reasons for this where already listed by Darkhax and bl4ckscor3 (thanks!). :)
It’s theft and a general safety risk.
The ones who write mods should be happy that someone else redistributes them. I don't really understand the purpose of this campaign. But yeah, this is why I stopped playing Minecraft about a year ago. Because of people like you. Why are you even using GitHub - which doesn't work without the huge amount of JavaScript.
