[Bug] Pathing issues makes hunters' pets op #1046

Description: Hunters' pets pathing has serious issues and it makes them very op in pvp situations, because the pet can follow you through paths that are not valid, including through walls, just happened to me in Isle of Conquest, but I also had situation when pet teleports on top of me, because there is no other valid path to follow (dinosaur). This permanently locks you in combat and takes poking to extreme.

Current behaviour: Hunters' pets can follow paths that are not valid, including straight up or through walls/gates.

Expected behaviour: Hunters' pets should not be able to follow paths that are not valid for playable characters, including going through the walls or teleporting to the target when no valid path is available. The pet should only teleport to hunter/owner when there is no valid path to get back to them. This makes hunters' pets op because they can harass you indefinitely and lock you in combat, even though you are far away from the fight.

Do you have a video example of said behavior? Also, don't forget about the hunter talent Blink Strikes.

No, I do not have a video. Yes, blink strikes exist, but afaik they shouldn't allow the pet teleport through walls the same way mages cannot blink through walls.

Turns out it has nothing to do with blink strikes, because on my priest the shadowfiend also teleports to its targets when there is no valid path, and I am quite sure it should not have such an ability.

priest shadow fiend has a teleport, every 6 seconds on autocast. Its an ability

Yes, Shadowcrawl, but it's not about teleporting, it's about how the pet teleports. It ignores any obstacles on its way to reach the target.

Anyway they wont fix it, i dont think they can fix any pet related issue. They wont even fix xuen damage on mistweavers, when its just a scaling issue. Having pets teleporting on you must have some bigger factors in play, and i doubt they will spend resources and manpower figuring that shit out. Considering, that pets fell under bladelords platform, and pets stuck in water on magera, or pets cant go to jikun platform, they maybe implemented something to battle these issues, and with the process, they fucked pvp. They wont fix it so you better play around this and kill the pet.

Pathfinding doesn't work correctly right now and the easiest way to check it is to pull from range an NPC that has no direct path to us. Normally this should pull aggro and lock the npc in evade mode until player loses aggro or jumps down, gets into position with viable path. On stormforge the NPC will just run up to us with no issue.

Pets and npcs ignoring pathing limitations was something present in vanilla and fixed around tbc era.
