Add a lower-tier excavator / skid for some mid-game variety #1076

If you're a miner, you use your pick through most of the game, then get a skid / excavator just at the end of the game and then the meteor usually gets shot down soon after. There isn't much time to enjoy the new toys, and days 1 through 14+ of mining for iron and such look the same.

It would be nice if the game featured some lower-tier excavator and skid equivalents. Something like

Stuff that runs on coal, isn't as efficient as the end-game vehicles, but still makes mining more interesting. Something you could make alongside the Steam Truck to have some small steam industrialisation going on, making coal even more valuable ;).

I would love this, perhaps then "above" skid steer perhaps have a tunnel boring style machine? 4x4 kinda sized machine that can make big long tunnels or one of the below image to literally strip mine an area

Blasting totally plays into the mid-tech mining, but perhaps something like the Ingersoll rock drill also?

They were powered by steam or compressed air, so maybe needing proximity to mechanical or steam power to function? Having to set up static apparatus to power mining equipment would certainly add some complexity to early mining industrialisation.

They're also beautiful. I love steam shovels, but they're totally for surface or open-cast mining.

On the high-tech front: Roadheaders and face haulers for advanced underground mining, pls!

I love that they have huge batteries and are powered by electricity, so mine ventilation is less of a problem.

I am thinking on a module for Steam Tractor converting it into a bulldozer just for road laying. It should not dig through rock, only stuff that can be dug with a shovel.

Doubly so if it's linked with road degradation and maintenance: #862.

Tbh i have been thinking about this in my new wipe, i really think this would be a good addition since mining and for example glassworking or pottery is very onedimensional, so the option to do it faster/cheaper/more fun would be appreciated in my book ^^
