Create some "Wonders/Megaprojects" for group collaboration and group benefits #1079

At the moment most projects are done / controlled by a single person - one person crafts the computer lab and then they can place it. The only way to collaborate is by doing some work parties for them or giving them resources directly. It would perhaps be nice if things were done a little differently.

The Wonders / Megaprojects would work a little differently. Anyone could build the starting scaffolding for the project relatively cheaply to get started (and reserve space for the final product, etc.), but later the actual construction would be open for potentially anyone to contribute their resources and labour to. They would act like workbenches that change themselves and potentially require a lot of varied resources to construct.

For example, you could create a large reactor that would produce a lot of energy for everyone. First step would be to clear enough land and place the scaffolding to claim the spot for the actual construction. Then you'd need a lot of bricks, reinforced concrete, glass, etc. to build the building. Next step would require a lot of copper wires, metal plates, etc. to build powerlines and transformers. Final part would be a lot of electronics for the computers. Completing each step would change how the project looks visually (maybe some parts could be done in parallel and each would change how one part of the building looks). Only after all the steps would be complete would everyone be able to benefit from it (and ideally those Wonders would be aimed at helping everyone) - maybe everyone would get SP boost for the project being completed, and then you'd have some powerful effects unlocked, like a lot of power, some way to boost carbon skimming form the atmosphere, tailings reprocessing, etc. Heck, you could convert the meteor destruction into one or two such projects.

In general, this would be similar to various big projects from games like Stellaris' Megastructures (cheap to built scaffolding, expensive build proper that gives incremental benefits on each phase), Frostpunk Last Autumn (where building the generator is one large scenario, and later you can upgrade it with even more advanced technology), etc.

In general, once the system is in place it could relatively easily add a lot of end-game content cheaply and would give players something to strive for other than destroying the meteor.

Some possible Wonders:

Love the idea of big infrastructure projects. Much prefer player-built stuff integrated with gameplay systems, rather than big black-box prefabs.

Crop irrigation systems, large-scale roads and bridges, centralised water and sanitation, and deep tailings storage and the capitol building might all already fall into this category, and use the existing systems, although any development of these systems would be amazing.

Something like hydroelectric dams would be wonderful - a big investment that uses game systems to provide a useful advantage for a settlement in the form of clean, cheap power. A large solar installation or offshore wind farm might be a similar large-scale power solution. Some kind of water, wind and sun intensity simulation would probably be required for these to really make sense. As it stands you can place wind and solar anywhere for identical effect, so there's no incentive for this to be a centralised project.

Pollution remediation might also fall into this category - large-scale removal of topsoil, treatment of waterways and atmospheric filtration and carbon sequestration would all be exciting collective projects requiring large-scale investment. Related to carbon skimmers above. Artificial trees, perhaps?

Wildlife preservation projects - captive breeding programmes, wildlife management and suchlike could also take this kind of investment.

Culture buildings like libraries, archives, museums, etc. would also be wonderful, especially if they had some kind of gameplay impact... Something related to skill learning or SP rate perhaps?

Edit: If the weather system were robust enough, terraforming projects would be pure catnip for me. Raising flood defences, changing wind and rainfall patterns by moving mountains - advanced irrigation for late-game civilisations. Greening deserts.

It would also be interesting to see some really large industrial machines as some sort of megaprojects, something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpgK51w6uhk . In practice those could be upscaled versions of normal machines that operate in large batches (so instead of making 1 steel plate at a time you might be making 50-100) - a bit useless for small operations, very useful for other large scale projects (like White Tiger's computer lab).
