I can not agree with the person going for mining Basalt in early game for no reason. It was a role play but you can't balance around that. And rewarding people for doing silly stuff like that makes no sense to me.
Anyways it seems you get the same amount of exp per hit no matter how hard the rock is. Ant it makes perfect sense to me.
Regarding stumps and debris I do agree completely. It did always hurt my feelings how people leave all those around in early game when you can't even punish them as laws are not yet a thing at that point. And when a Logger levels up and decides to clear the mess he is not rewarded for it in no way, with plain zero exp for stumps and 0,01 per pulp.
And I do agree on the Exp from hunting. Its the same deal as with chopping - exp should be proportional to the damage dealt (not sure if it is not like that now, it might as well be).
As for Basalt I do find it way too common, making survival and mining in certain areas a total pain.

Well, my line of thinking goes like this:
Recently, I watched some ECO stream from Aavak - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMjROJNU9e4&list=PLoD8-EPclbcTKSz4Suh-lXy989apBFEsH&index=4 . In it, he decided on day 1 to roleplay a dwarf and build his starting base in the mountain. Soon after, I thought to myself - "oh no, he'll be mining basalt and other really hard rocks with a rock pick for many days" and of course, that's basically what happens. Then I thought to myself - "what if the game compensated people for doing the hard things?".
So here's the suggestion:
The extra XP shouldn't be anything crazy not to make people feel they have to go mine basalt to get to that Mining 7 a lot faster, but it should still be a neat compensation for the people that do. Those players already "pay" for that extra XP by mining rocks less fast than those that go for the sandstone, etc.
This would encourage a bit more of a diverse start and help people that do unconventional things in the game.
