In my view this is the most important suggestion i've given. The game would be alot more fun if more materials were rare and required exploration.
Miners already have exploration incentive built in, with their iron drill, they're often seen running around mountain areas looking for copper. It's super fun! Expand this element to other professions too, please :)
There is several ideas for that, including a Fog of War and Points of Interest for each player until they can share maps or invent GPS-like systems :)
Creating incentive and excitement to explore the world, seems like a low hanging fruit :)
I suggest doing this by introducing rare, biome-specific and useful materials, plants, animals, ores, maybe even treetypes. Rare materials that are worth exploring for, and doesn't show on the map filters, like ores doesn't. Further ideas down the road could be honey from rare wild beehives, or gems from mining.
