You would be talking about eating actual world blocks like sand, crushed stone, and stone itself. If anything, bottling is a good idea, but bottles (or broken bottles, however that is to be implemented) should definitely be a reusable resource, sometime somewhere.
Don't tell me you eat glass, unless you're a Moclan?
A simple "juicer" workbench would balance both glassworking and gathering - hear me out. ^_^
Actually i got this idea when i read suggestion #1633 . which points to glassworking being useless early-midgame until fiberglass, apart from their small usage in upgrade modules. The solution i came up with would be producing bottled juice-beverages, made from the fruit tag. I imagine The Juicer pretty similar to The Mill. Fruit juice made on the juicer would require 1 glass and x amount of fruit tag, and disappears on consumption just like food. The juice could give a 10% run speed buff for 5 minutes, or it could have a high nutrition multiplier. I'd prefer it giving a buff, since it'll be too easy to ignore if it only worked like edibles.
Fruitjuices would not only solve glass being useless until lategame, it could also balance the gathering profession which has long been too 'skippable' since it doesn't have anything unique, and is just picked for better gathering rate. Gather fruits, juice em, and ship em! ;)
