I've been thinking of an idea based around taming animals in the game which can be used for both farmers and hunters. This skill would also be useful for other professions such a tailoring and cooking.
Too unlock it I was thinking it would require ingredients from the butchery specialty and farming specialty to craft the research book.
At level 1 it would give very basic taming recipes, such has a very basic bait item you could give to animals to tame them after enough is given but can only be given to basic animals, such as deer/elk and goats. (if other animals are added like cows and/or pigs than perhaps them as well). Level 1 would also include a wooden fence which you can craft which animals cant jump/climb over, so that would could keep them in an enclosed area. Also a net which could be used to pick up insects and other tiny creatures such as spiders which could than be used with something like glass to make a little terrariums which could have different things in them based on what you put in them, such as plants with plant fiber, sand with sand and so on (just to make it more lively), these terrariums could also give housing exp. Lastly a lasso which would be made of plant fibers so you can grab animals and stop them from moving so you can easily catch up to them to tame.
At level 2 you can unlock sheers so that you can sheers animals that contain wool however to make it so butchery for wool isn't useless, you can only do this once per day to tamed animals and just cant sheer non tamed animals.
At level 3, you could unlock other types of fences (such as stone walls which could be more of a decoration than anything else, or make the animals more happy/comfy thus giving more resources by a percentage), bigger taming bait so you can tame better animals such as bison and a small bait for animals such as rabbits and other small creatures. Another thing for level 3 taming could be the ability to gather rescores such as milk from certain animals when using a bucket on them (which could be crafted with 1-3 iron from a smelter) or a wooden bowl which gives less in total. This milk could be used at cooking stations to make items such as bottled milk which would be crafted from a glass bottle (would can be crafted as a glass works using glass) and the milk (an iron bucket milk giving 3 bottled milk and wooden giving just 1), the milk could also be used to craft other food items such as cheese, cream and maybe some other things, or could just be drunk by itself. You could also unlock a better lasso at this point as well made of leather which has much more durability.
For the level 3 taming perk, 1 of them could be to have a chance not to consume bait when taming an animal and make them easier to tame. The other perk would be an increase in resources from tamed animals by a percentage.
At level 4 you could unlock bait for wolf's allowing for hunters to tame them and use them in hunting. You could also unlock a saddle at this point too if any ridable creature such a horse was added, perhaps even ride a bison or elk. Also an upgrade to fences to give another option for variety and better happiness for tamed animals.
At level 5 you wouldn't unlock anything special
At level 6 you could unlock a machine (requires industry or something) which could automatically get resources for you such as milk or wool based on what is put in it, so milk and wool for goats, wool for bison and if something like a cow, than just milk, of course the goats would give less than the others since you get both wool and milk instead of just the 1 resource.
The perks for level 6 could be, animals produce resources faster by a percentage and the other perk could be something like, animals you breed will always produce offspring.
At level 7 you wouldn't unlock anything special
For each level you would get bonuses like other skills in decrease in using tool that give exp for that skill, such a lassos, buckets, sheers, feeding the animals to tame them and breeding the animals. You could also get more benefits from the food items such as cheese, milk and things they craft per level.
As for the taming of wolfs, that could be locked behind hunting level 4 of something so you cant just instantly use them.
Lastly, for the milk and what it can make, that could be involved with one of the cooking skills and perhaps you could make cereal which could give 50% bonus resources it gives in the mornings. You could also maybe make some drink items as well such as coffee which could give a bonus to speed with movement and tool usage which would only be about 5% at the basic coffee and later on with advanced cooking you could make better coffee which could make the bonus something like 15%. You could also use cheese in sandwiches and other similar food items, or even with cooked meats to make better food items.
There could also be items such as animal bedding would could help in keeping animals happy and such. Maybe even food/water troughs.
If any questions about this, feel free to ask. Also I might add to this in the future if I can think of anything else but as of right now, this is all I got.
