storage tab on some objects shouldn't need to enable/disable linked inventories #408

Storage chests for example, don't need checkboxes to enabled/disable linked inventories, only crafting tables really need this.

Some way to disable that functionality for storage chests / stockpiles / etc would be great.

Do you want to hide the linked inventory displays altogether maybe?

BlazeGuy2 commented 6 years ago

From @metachronism on September 19, 2017 21:45

no you should still see linked inventories, just there is no need to be able to enable or disable them with the checkbox

Also, can we label what the check box means?
Take Items From Here Deposit Items Here Having separate checkboxes would be handy too

maybe something like this? 01 02 03

this will give us infinite possibilities especially seeing as we can already sort the storage in whichever order we want them to access first.

Expanding Slightly on this due to it being In and Out for Storage it is really a lot of work for example being a Miner i have loads of Stone brazier's and Kilns etc that i have to fill manually with coal, but if the they could be linked to a single Stockpile of Coal, and then i can choose to take from this Storage when the power tab is empty, it would be easier to keep this One output of Coal full than running around all over the place filling things by hand.

each table and brazier has the option to view Storage anyway.

To be honest, I'd prefer the visual overview of all nearby chests to be optional too. Right now I often have to wait for 5 seconds for all the chests to open just to take a single item out of the chest.

@Conchipedia Yes that's exactly what we are planning to do :)

+1 for the sorting system take from here deposit here maybe even a tab on each chest/stockpile to define what can go in with a list to toggle, it could even be a new furniture/workshop who will do this

Also CompactDisc is right, opening a chest or a stockpile take 5sec its a problem when you start to hoard ressource and have multiple stockpile/chest, it often happen when you do mining or cooking/farmer when you do mining you start to have massive amount of stone, mortared stone, bricks, sand, etc.

It would be great to have the possibility when you open a chest/stockpile/workbench and the linked chest/stockpile are 'minimized' the server doesnt send the array with the content of this stockpile but if you click to expand the stockpile and see the content at this moment you will get the information for it i see 2gain from it : -we will not have to wait 5sec each time we open a chest/stockpile/workbench we can minimize other linked chest and only see the chest we want -with 100+players i think if they spam open/close/open storage with 10-20+ full linked storage to it the server will have difficulty to send all this information

Also it would be great to have the possibility in settings to enable/disable the render of the content of a stockpile, often I see players not being able to reach some area because there is a miner here in this area who has a lot of stockpile full and people have 2-10fps in this area when you delete all stockpile with a devtool they stop to freeze but not every players are ok with the deleting of their stockpile and loosing their ressource if the only goal is to improve the fps of others players

Having the linked inventory options on chests is useful. When placing a new chest, it's good to have all the other objects (workbenches, store, etc.) available in one place for editing the linking. I often do not want a new chest to be linked to everything in the area when it is placed. Somewhat related to: https://github.com/StrangeLoopGames/EcoIssues/issues/3545

Oh, like the inverse settings... all the settings that other objects have on that chest. That's interesting.

Nicolausi113 commented 6 years ago

If You may consider this one too for your planning #123 The worst for me is the auto set linkage. The second are the amount of uninteresting links and all unfolded. (Since I play ECO I hope for improvement)

Remark for In/Out marker: it is tricky, it becomes property of the crafting device, lots of data.

any news of implementing Input and Output options for storage?

In real life for example a Brick making company has storage for the finished product and storage for raw materials which is kept separate from each other, this is for the reason that raw materials will not interfere with the storage of finished product, if they had only one storage area the company would have to stop producing as they have no specially assigned area for items in and out till there was enough space.

A simple set of tick boxes that by default is for both input and output which you can adjust to whatever your needs are as per my snapshots for them earlier on in this Suggestion.

Players keep asking if Modders are able to do this (which they might be able to) but to have this as part of the Vanilla Eco would benefit us all, as a lot of players want to setup stores and public crafting areas where you don;t have to keep asking the player who set them up to come online and empty one of the stockpiles or add more.

Braziers etc should not need to turn up as linked inventories. They are really seldom what you actually look for, while browsing inventories. I suggest to move them to a separate "refuel" tab, or just make them intractable only directly - non linked.

Conchipedia commented 4 years ago

i like seeing braziers from Other storage i can refuel them from any other storage close by, also if they are placed FIRST in the storage link of a Store and you are buying Coal from players they will automatically Fill first before the overflow of coal is moved to other storage. you can also add the maximum amount for all braziers fuel tab as to maximum amount of coal to buy, so when braziers are FULL you don;t need any more coal.

using Coal as an example same would work with any fuel that is required by any linked items that require fuel

Knigge commented 4 years ago

But how often do you access the inventory to look for refueling braziers, and how often do you open an inventory to find item? Its atleast 1 to 100. I think braziers should default to bottom of the inventory list and be hidden. If people want to have them on the top for some reason - they can move them up and unhide them.

Conchipedia commented 4 years ago

quite often as they are most often used to keep refueled to get the room score points, also i do the same for campfire fuel storage
